Alpha Grillers instant-read meat thermometer used to check steak on the grill — only if that accurately describes your featured photo.

Foodie Mob Kitchen Find: The Steak Thermometer

I like my steak medium rare. My wife likes hers well done.

You can imagine how that goes sometimes. 😂

I’ll pull mine off the grill thinking I’ve got it just right, only to find out hers isn’t cooked the way she wants. Back on the grill it goes.

I really hate doing that.

That’s why an instant-read meat thermometer started making a lot of sense to me. Instead of guessing, you can check the temperature and know where you’re at before you pull that steak off the grill.

I picked up the Alpha Grillers Instant Read Meat Thermometer, and my first impression is that it’s a solid little kitchen tool.

What I Like About It So Far

One thing I noticed right away is its size. It’s compact, fits comfortably in your hand, and doesn’t have one of those big, bulky displays. It also feels nice and substantial.

Here are some of the features I’ve noticed:

  • Automatic power-on: Pull out the probe, and the thermometer turns on automatically.
  • Fahrenheit or Celsius: Switch between the two temperature scales.
  • Illuminated display: A button turns on the display light.
  • Built-in meat-temperature guide: The thermometer includes a quick-reference guide for beef, poultry, fish, and pork, so you don’t have to look up each temperature separately.
  • Additional temperature guide: It also comes with a separate meat-temperature guide.
  • HOLD, MAX, and MIN functions: These controls provide additional temperature-reading functions.
  • Batteries included: One battery is installed, and an extra battery is included.
  • Lifetime warranty: The product information indicates a lifetime warranty; check the manufacturer’s terms for coverage details.

I especially like having the temperature guide right on the thermometer. When you’re cooking, having that information handy can save you from stopping to look it up.

Will It Help at the Grill?

That’s what I’m looking forward to finding out.

With my steak medium rare and my wife’s well done, this thermometer has a real job to do in our kitchen. I’ll put it to the test while cooking and share how it performs once I’ve had a chance to use it.

Because a kitchen tool can look good on paper, but what really matters is how it works when you’re cooking.

Putting It to Work on the Grill

Checking steak temperature with the Alpha Grillers instant-read thermometer.

I finally got to put this thermometer to work while grilling steaks, and it gave me a temperature reading pretty quickly.

That’s what you want when you’re standing over a hot grill. Your hands are already dealing with the heat, so you don’t want to be fumbling around waiting for the numbers to show up.

The display was easy to read while I was cooking. The harder part was taking a picture while holding the thermometer! 😂

When you’re trying to get dinner just right, every little bit helps.

And in my house, getting the steaks right matters. I like mine medium rare, while my wife likes hers well done. 😂

Do you use a meat thermometer when you cook steaks, or do you go by experience?
