Coney Island Drive-Inn: A Little Taste of Cleveland in Largo
Sometimes the Mob gets out of Tarpon Springs.
Today, my wife and I headed over to Largo for lunch at Coney Island Drive-Inn. And being born and raised in Cleveland, I couldn’t walk into Coney Island Drive-Inn, see a Polish Boy on the menu, and order anything else.
So we both ordered one.
And this wasn’t some little sandwich they were sending out. This thing was loaded.
The ¼-pound smoked kielbasa was topped with French fries, a generous pile of homemade Southern coleslaw, and sweet BBQ sauce. And when I say they loaded it with coleslaw, they loaded it with coleslaw.
The coleslaw was what really made this sandwich for me. Add in the smoky kielbasa, sweet BBQ sauce, and those fries right on top, and you’ve got a combination that just works.
The bun was big enough to handle it all, but even then, this was one of those sandwiches that was hard to handle—in a good way. 😂
We also ordered onion rings for the table, and they were very good.
The Vibe
Walking into Coney Island Drive-Inn is like stepping into an old-school piece of Americana.
The walls are covered with colorful signs, license plates, sports memorabilia and all kinds of things that give the place some personality. Plenty of little details to look at while you wait for your food.
And right by the front door, you’re greeted by a giant hot dog.
Because of course you are. 🌭😂
This isn’t trying to be fancy. It’s a casual, colorful place where you come to grab some good food and have a little fun while you’re there.
The Service
The service was great.
You order from the board, they cook your food, and when it’s ready, they call your name.
Simple.
No fuss.
And it worked.
Foodie Mob Quick Take
The Polish Boy was the reason we came, and it delivered.
The smoky kielbasa, sweet BBQ sauce, French fries, and that mountain of coleslaw made one seriously loaded sandwich.
It’s messy.
It’s filling.
And it’s really good.
Final Thoughts
Born and raised in Cleveland, I’ll always have a soft spot for a good Polish Boy.
So maybe I was a little biased when I walked through the door.
But honestly, Coney Island Drive-Inn gave us a really good lunch.
The food was good, the service was great, and the atmosphere was fun.
And sometimes getting out of Tarpon Springs and finding something a little different is exactly what the Mob needs.
