Classic Cinnamon Rolls: A Timeless Pastry Recipe

Classic Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing are a delightful and indulgent treat that has become a beloved staple in many households and bakeries. These delectable pastries are made from a yeasted dough filled with a mixture of cinnamon, sugar, and sometimes butter or other spices, creating a warm and inviting aroma that permeates the air as they bake.

Making cinnamon rolls typically involves rolling out the dough, spreading the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the surface, and then rolling the dough into a tight log. The log is then sliced into individual rolls, which are arranged in a baking dish and left to rise before being baked in the oven. This baking process results in soft, fluffy rolls with a golden brown exterior that are simply irresistible.

Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven, they are slathered with a generous amount of cream cheese icing. This rich and creamy frosting adds a tangy contrast to the sweetness of the cinnamon filling, making for a perfect balance of flavors. The icing also contributes to the moist and gooey texture of the cinnamon rolls, ensuring that every bite is satisfying and delicious.

Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing are often enjoyed as a special treat for breakfast, brunch, or as a dessert. They are perfect for sharing with friends and family, and their warm, comforting nature makes them a popular choice for gatherings and celebrations. Whether enjoyed warm from the oven or at room temperature, cinnamon rolls with icing are sure to delight the senses and bring a smile to the faces of all who indulge in them.

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk (if needed to thin the icing)

Instructions

To Prepare Cinnamon Rolls
  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Add sugar, softened butter, eggs, salt, and flour, and mix until well combined.
  2. Knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic, then let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Roll out the dough into a large rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Spread softened butter over the surface of the dough.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered dough.
  7. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long edge, and pinch the seam to seal.
  8. Cut the rolled dough into 1-inch-thick slices and place them in a greased baking dish.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown.
To Prepare Cream Cheese Icing
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
  4. If the icing is too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing well after each addition, until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Spread the icing over your cooled cinnamon rolls and serve immediately. Enjoy!
