What to Order at Tarpon Turtle in Tarpon Springs.

Pinellas Pick – Atmosphere & Food Combo Done Right.

Alright, Mob — we stopped by Tarpon Turtle during a busy Saturday lunch to see if the beach-town vibe actually delivers when it comes to the food.

Tarpon Turtle is one of those spots people talk about for the atmosphere alone, so we wanted to see if the kitchen matches the setting.

Instead of playing it safe, I went with something a little off-the-wall — the Mahi-Mahi Reuben.

My wife? She kept it classic with the Steak Burger and fries.

What We Ordered

• Mahi-Mahi Reuben
• Steak Burger
• Fries (both plates)

Mahi-Mahi Reuben

This isn’t your typical sandwich. Blackened fresh mahi, Thousand Island dressing, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut — all stacked on marbled rye with fries on the side.

It sounds unusual.

But it works.

The mahi was cooked right — flaky and moist, not dry. You could tell it was fresh, and the blackening seasoning gave it real flavor without overpowering the sandwich. It had just enough kick without turning it into a spice overload.

What really surprised me was how well everything balanced. The sauerkraut added brightness, the Swiss mellowed it out, and the Thousand Island tied it together in a way that didn’t feel heavy.

And the bread? Toasted perfectly. That matters more than people think. It held everything together without getting soggy halfway through.

It’s not a safe pick — but it’s a rewarding one.

If you’re feeling adventurous, this is a strong move.

Steak Burger (The Safe Play)

My wife went with the steak burger — her usual dependable choice.

She said it was very good. Cooked properly, juicy, and exactly what you’d expect from a solid steakhouse-style burger. Nothing flashy — just consistent execution.

The fries were crispy, basic but solid — not greasy, and they did the job. No truffle oil, no over-seasoning. Just classic fries done right.

If you’re the type who sticks with what you know, the burger is a safe and reliable option.

But between the two?

The Mahi Reuben had more personality.

The Vibe

It was very busy when we went, which is usually a good sign. We grabbed a table outside overlooking Lake Tarpon’s western side, and that waterfront setting is where Tarpon Turtle really shines.

There’s something about sitting outside with the breeze coming off the water that makes everything feel more relaxed — even during a lunch rush.

Even with the crowd, the food came out pretty fast.

Our server was clearly handling a busy shift, but the service was still great — attentive without hovering, and quick to check in when needed. That says a lot about how a place runs during peak hours.

Busy kitchen.
Full patio.
Still smooth service.

That’s a good sign.
